Osteoarthritis Management - Program Overview

Osteoarthritis Healthy Weight For Life™ is the remotely delivered program provided at no cost to eligible members of most Australian health funds.

Proven to reduce knee and hip pain

The structured easy to follow program has been shown in internationally published studies (Publication A, Publication B, Publication C) to significantly improve joint pain, physical mobility, vitality and emotional wellbeing. All in the comfort of your own home.

Where joint surgery is needed, it can also improve your fitness for surgery and rehabilitation.

Targets three key modifiable risk factors

Expertly designed to help you and your healthcare team target a number of the key modifiable risk factors for osteoarthritis, including:

weight loss of 5 - 7.5%

For each additional kilogram of body weight a person carries there is an extra 4 kilograms of force exerted through the knee joint with every step taken during the day.¹

A weight reduction of 5-7.5% for people carrying extra weight, irrespective of their starting weight, can have a dramatic impact on joint pain and ability to perform normal daily activities.² ³

(The complete HWFL healthy Portion Planning and Education Pack provided at no cost.)

strengthening muscles around the joints

Thigh, hamstring, calf and buttock muscles all play a critical role in doing everyday activities such as walking up and down stairs, or getting out of a chair.

When your muscles are strengthened and working effectively they help stabilise the joints and improve your balance, confidence and ability to be physically active.

getting active

Many people with osteoarthritis tend to avoid using their painful joints for fear of making their pain worse. Being inactive can create a cycle of pain and deterioration.4

Gentle activity such as walking and Tai Chi can improve physical functioning, reduce pain and help break the cycle of deterioration.²

Easy to manage step-by-step program

The structured remotely delivered program consists of 3 phases, run over 18 weeks with each step carefully designed to make it as easy as possible for you to achieve your osteoarthritis management goals. All in the comfort of your own home.
